Aerial Sightseeing Around Texas: the Battleship and the Monument

I thought I’d have some fun finding some interesting and historic sites around Texas with Google Maps. After finding the sites, I used the Microsoft Terra Server to find the same places and increase the magnification, where possible.

The Battleship Texas fought in both the World Wars; in 1948 she was retired and now she’s permanently moored near the Houston Ship Channel and Buffalo Bayou.

The San Jacinto Battleground Monument commemorates the Battle of San Jacinto in which Sam Houston and his army defeated General Santa Anna and the Mexican Army to earn Texas its independence.
