More Bad Weather…

May 29th, 2005

Looks like more bad weather is on the way. We’ve been seeing lightning all evening, but now radar shows the storm front is upon us. We’re hearing thunder, and Rudy is barking. Should make for a rollicking evening.

Judging from what we’re hearing so far, this storm is more about rain and wind than lightning and thunder. I’m probably not going to power down the Pine Gulch Data Center unless the lightning gets worse and the power begins to flicker.

Update: The storm’s been on us for about an hour now, and the worst of it has passed on to the east. We’re still seeing lightning several times a minute, and the rain continues to fall. The lightning in this storm must be mostly cloud-to-cloud lightning, because power has remained on the whole time except for one half-second glitch in the first few minutes of the storm.

Update, 2:30 AM: I’m about to go to bed. I haven’t heard wind, rain, or thunder for the last few hours, but when I look out the window, I still see lightning off in the distance. Out of curiosity, I pulled up the Chronicle’s weather page one last time, and I see that the line of storms is still raging offshore to the south:

The Chronicle notes that three people were injured around Houston during tonight’s storm.
