Monday Miscellanea

June 13th, 2005

I start a new project tomorrow at work. It’s a fascinating assignment that will consume about half my time over the summer months. It’s also a “competition sensitive” project so I can’t say a word about it. But trust me, I’ll be having fun.

Yesterday’s trip to Seguin involved the nastiest traffic jam I’ve ever had the misfortune to sit through. On our way back toward Houston, at about Katy Mills Mall on I-10 west of town, traffic came to a complete stop and did not move for over an hour. I’ve been in lots of stop-and-go, crawling along type situations in Houston’s famous traffic, but never such a solid and long jam. People were turning off their engines and getting out of their cars to have a smoke or chat with other people about what could possibly be going on. On the radio I heard one brief report indicating that the cause was a fatal rollover accident a few miles up the road.

Wendy and I have made plans for a short getaway this summer, in between our visits to Dad’s place on Brindlee Mountain and Casa Richardson on Lake Wilson. We have reserved two nights in the cabin at the Avaleen Springs Bed and Breakfast in Linden, Tennessee. Linden is located just west of milepost 391 along the Natchez Trace Parkway and just northeast of the Shiloh battleground. Avaleen Springs looks like a great place to stay. I’m already counting the days.

And finally, since everyone has been asking “Where’s the old photo of you?,” here’s one from the archive. The T-shirt says “I’m A Little Tiger.” Yes, my career as an Auburn fan started early:
