Letter From Camp

Wednesday, June 15th, 2005

We got a letter from Bryn at horse camp today. She’s doing fine and has met five new friends. We miss Bryn, but I bet she’s having the time of her life.

A Major Interview

Tuesday, June 14th, 2005

Wendy and Summer have gone across town to take Major to meet a family that’s looking for a dog with "the right personality". Major has been with us for a month now, and has really begun to feel at home here. He’s a terrific dog and we all like him, but I’d really like to [...]

Monday Miscellanea

Monday, June 13th, 2005

I start a new project tomorrow at work. It’s a fascinating assignment that will consume about half my time over the summer months. It’s also a “competition sensitive” project so I can’t say a word about it. But trust me, I’ll be having fun.
Yesterday’s trip to Seguin involved the nastiest traffic jam I’ve ever had [...]

Off to Camp

Sunday, June 12th, 2005

We drove to Seguin – near San Antonio – and back again today. We delivered Bryn to the Blue Streak Stables where she will spend the week in horse camp. She was very excited to be there and I was excited for her. She’s going to have a great time. More later.

Wow, This is Just Beautiful!

Friday, June 10th, 2005

I picked up Beforeon a post today by Matt Mullenweg, Houston guy and principal author of WordPress, touting a new plugin for theming WordPress’s administrative interface. This has long been a sore point for me: although many beautiful WordPress themes are available, the admin interface is, well… it’s not butt ugly, but let’s just say [...]

Photo From the Archives

Thursday, June 9th, 2005

The sun set over the Pacific Ocean as an evening fog rolled in. Taken from a San Francisco-area seaside hill with my trusty old Pentax K1000 about sixteen years ago.

That was my first trip to California, in June of 1988 or 1989. I went with Andy Mager to attend Xhibition – a conference for X [...]

Don’t Take Your Photos to Wal-Mart

Wednesday, June 8th, 2005

Here’s a story I came upon while browsing the Howdy Kid’s weblog: A woman took a digital photo to Wal-Mart to be printed. But Wal-Mart’s photo lab thought the photograph looked “too professional” and refused to give her a copy of her own photograph! The Wal-Mart clerk wanted a signed copyright release from the photographer [...]

Secret Worlds: The Universe Within

Tuesday, June 7th, 2005

I had heard of this before, but never seen it for myself. It’s called Secret Worlds: The Universe Within, though you could also call it “Powers of 10″. It’s a Java applet that zooms from 10 million light years away from the Milky Way, down to a view of quarks, in increments of powers of [...]

Flickr Schwag

Tuesday, June 7th, 2005

I like the Flickr photo sharing service, I mean I really like it. They have some innovative software over there, and they know how to make their service fun to use. Now they’re giving away stickrs and buttons with their logo on it. All you have to do is send them a self-addressed envelope – [...]

Apple’s Big Announcement

Monday, June 6th, 2005

The whole Internet is buzzing with speculation over the details of today’s announcement from Apple regarding Intel. For several weeks the rumors have been floating around that Apple is going to abandon IBM for Intel as its source of chips for Apple’s computers. This news didn’t garner too much of my attention at first, because [...]
