Monday Miscellanea
August 22nd, 2005When I came home this afternoon, I parked in a much cleaner garage. That was the weekend project: clean it out and throw some stuff away. We spent pretty much all day Saturday, 9:30 AM - 4:30 PM, working at it. We took everything out, swept it out, hosed it out, and then put everything back but the trash.
Wendy complained that I was parking so close to the shelves at the front of the garage that she couldn’t get to them. So I hung a tennis ball from the ceiling and I can now park so as to leave a couple of feet between the shelves and the front of the Mustang.
I got an email today purporting to be from the mail administrator at pobox.com, my forwarding service; the email said that a lot of spam had been sent from my account. It had a zipped attachment that was labeled as a report. All this looked very suspicious, so I took the zip file to my linux machine, where I unzipped it and examined it. It was named like a document, but was in fact an executable - probably containing a virus, worm, or trojan horse. I forwarded the email to the real admins at pobox.com, who sent me back a form letter telling me not to open the attachment. Well, DUH!
I’ve been seeing some glitches and slow access on the web site the past few weeks. Sometimes it’s an error code 500, “Server configuration error.” These are nothing I have control over, folks. My hosting provider provides pretty good service, with the exception of these glitches.
Wendy got her hair cut today. Not terribly short, though, so guess who failed to notice? Not only did I not notice, but others did. Her friend Jackie noticed all the way “from the street.” So, Jackie, you knew about this and yet you failed to call and warn me? Thanks a lot. At least the garage is clean enough to sleep in.
