Making Music Videos With Google Earth

August 28th, 2005

As many of you know, I’ve made a hobby in the past couple of years of making music videos. Well here’s a new twist on that idea: use Google Earth to generate some video, set it to music, and you have a nice geographical music video. Here are three nice videos made with Google Earth:

My Odyssey” comes from blog addict GingerD:

Wonderful World” is from the videoblog The Random Show (you will need the Quicktime plugin to watch this one):

Finally, “The Mirror World“, my favorite, comes from videoblog “Lean Back Vids” (Quicktime required here, too):

I would like to make my own Google Earth video, but for some reason its animation is very jerky on my system. I suspect maybe the jerkiness is because of my very old video card, which doesn’t have much texture memory. It wouldn’t cost me much to upgrade to a card with more memory; maybe I’ll get a new one and see if Google Earth’s playback quality improves.

*grins* The creator of the Random Show made his by setting his camera in front of his monitor. I thought of doing the same for mine (I have 2 computers so capturing vid on one and showing the vid on the other screen wouldn’t have been a problem) but I found my way to be easier. I think I already highlighted the program I used. ;)

I have found a couple of programs, in addition to the one you sent me, that will capture video. My problem continues to be that Google Earth just doesn’t play smoothly on my system. Sounds like a great excuse to buy a new video card, yes?
