Who’s Matching Donations?

September 1st, 2005

Does anybody out there know of places that are matching donations to hurricane relief funds? For example, 37signals was matching donations up to $5000, but they hit their limit before I could forward a copy of my Red Cross donation. Perhaps there are other organizations out there with deeper pockets than 37signals that are also matching donations; if so, I could make my little donation count double, triple, or even more.

2005.09.01-18.34.32/Texans.jpgUpdate: Here’s one place that’s matching donations: if you call 866-GO-TEXANS before the end of tonight’s Tampa Bay-Houston game and donate to the American Red Cross, Bob McNair, the owner of the Texans, will match your donation up to a total of one million dollars. They will not, however, match donations already made to the Red Cross; I just called and asked. The Texans donations will go to assist refugees in the Houston area – not that that matters to me. You don’t have to be a Texans fan – that’s not what matters here. You just have to want to help. They’re taking donations now, so if you haven’t donated, tonight would be a good time to call and give.
