Leigh Ann wonders “Will the paltry amount of my contribution even help?”

Your contribution will help. Take the amount of your small donation, and multiply it by the number of people in this country who are able to donate the same amount - how many millions or billions of dollars would that be? I expect a lot of people nationwide and worldwide will be donating. Just look at how much money was raised in the US for a tsunami that occurred all the way across the world. Those in the US who are able will be just as generous for their own citizens. And those in other countries will remember our generosity now that we are in need.

Of course, not everyone able to donate will donate, but that doesn’t mean the rest of us need to try to assume the entire burden. Do what you can, and then wait to see how the fund-raising goes. Wendy and I donated a small amount. In another week or two, if the Red Cross is still asking for money, we will likely donate again.
