A Grand, Heavy
September 19th, 2005What a thousand dollars worth of plywood and plylox looks like:
That’s thirty sheets of half-inch plywood and fourteen bags of plylox. It cost us just over a thousand dollars. Ouch.
I don’t mind laying out the money for a little protection. That’s just the Dummy Tax for living on the Texas gulf coast. What I really don’t want to do, though, is to have to cut and install all that plywood. I would much rather just stack the wood, uncut, in the garage. I’m still hoping Rita will weaken or turn away.
Here’s the plan: we keep an eye on the storm for a couple of days. If, by Wednesday morning, it looks like we’re still in the crosshairs, then I’ll stay home from work to cut all that playwood to fit my windows. Thursday evening, we’ll pack for a few days on the road. If, by Thursday morning, the storm is still on track and is a category 3 or higher, or if it’s predicted to be category 3 by landfall, we’ll leave for parts inland. If, on the other hand, the storm veers or is no higher than category 2, we’ll hang tight and ride it out.
