Wilma, Wilma, Go Away
October 19th, 2005
I guess I have become hypersensitive to reports of hurricanes in or near the Gulf of Mexico. Wilma seemed to go from tropical storm to category 5 hurricane in the blink of an eye. She is now the strongest Atlantic hurricane ever. There will be no cute “Dear Wilma” letter this time. I want no part of Wilma and wish she would just disappear. At least the forecasting models all predict she will veer well away from the Texas coast.
This reminds me that I had intended to write a series of posts describing our experience in the Rita evacuation. I have written none. Suffice it to say that I’m just not interested in reliving or even reflecting on that experience anytime soon; it’s just too depressing. I’ll tell the tale in due time.
Until then, here’s a cheery recipe for mashed potatoes.

But at least it seems it (she) would hit Florida and not Texas. Small consolation, eh?

This morning when I heard Wilma was a category 5, I couldn’t believe it. Wasn’t she just a tropical storm a day or two ago? I hope the forcasting models are right…. poor Florida.

I heard she was a 2 or 3, just yesterday I think. Unpredictable and fast changing these beasts are.

At least she is supposed to calm down a bit before stomping Florida. I lived in Kissimmee for a while and visited Tampa; there are nice people over there, and I hope they get out (like most people did here for Rita).

Yeah, but she is supposed to gain strength in the gulf before calming down. She’s already a 5… so will she break the scale?!

She weakened overnight to a cat-4 storm, but is expected to strengthen again. Either way, a storm you don’t want coming your way, and I’m glad she’s not coming mine.
