Tech is also a better team now than at the start. We played Miami without P.J. Daniels, and yet, still had a very balanced pass/run attack. Bowls don't like rematches (except FSU/Miami), so I don't suppose we'll know the answer to the question of who wins a late season Tech/Auburn game. We lost close games to NC State and UVA because we are inconsistent on offense. Still, the two games were close. NCState (L 14-17): Georgia Tech had a first-and-goal at the 2 with 33 seconds left. Reggie Ball fired a pass in the end zone that hit the hands of receiver Calvin Johnson who was in the air as he was hit by Marcus Hudson. Heath grabbed the ball and got two feet down before going out the back of the end zone for the interception. Virginia (L 17-27): Playing at UVA, we go down early 17-0, tie the game in the 3rd quarter, down by 3 to begin the fourth quarter, and we effectively lose the game in the 4th quarter. The ACC is now a tough place to win road conference games, just as it is during basketball season. UVA became bowl eligible with the win over Tech. I contend that the ACC is stronger than most folks care to realize, and it's not just the addition of VPISU/Miami/BC. The ACC currently has seven bowl-eligible teams and three more at 5-5, with eight and possibly nine bowl-eligible teams after this weekend (MD plays NC State, so only one will go 6-5). We may not have BCS plans this year, but the ACC can play football. No doubt that Auburn is a better team now than they were at the beginning of the season. In other words, it took a natural disaster of epic proportions to help Tennessee to win a significant game this season. Go 'Dores! I sometimes feel bad for Alabama when Auburn wins, but honestly, I had more friends go to or support Auburn than Alabama, so I definitely lost some of my Alabama loyalty over the years. Plus, it helps that Tech beat Auburn and Miami, arguably the best SEC and ACC teams this year. (Had to slip that in there). Finally, I now feel like Tech can play up there with the big boys in one very important category: PROBATION! Yes, we tried mightily over the years to be like the big boys of the ACC and SEC, and finally, we have attained our goal: our very first probation in school history. Go Jackets!
