Aurora Australis, In Living Color

On September 11 of last year, a massive solar flare ejected a stream of charged particles towards the Earth. NASA’s IMAGE satellite captured some amazing video of the Aurora Australis – the Southern Lights – when the stream of ions reached our upper atmosphere. This must have been awesome to witness from below.
