But Do Dead Men Listen to the Rolling Stones?
February 6th, 2006
OK, so I was wrong, that wasn’t self-censorship on the part of Mick Jagger, it was the ABC censor who dropped one word from “Start Me Up”. What fooled me, listening to it live, was that there was no dead air during the ‘bleep’ - I could hear the guitar, drums, the crowd, etc. It was just Mick’s voice that dropped out. Evidently the network censor was wired into the mixing board and could drop just the vocal channel. And I thought Mick was just playing nice. Silly me.
Seen off the Kuff.

Actually, the censor hit the button twice. You’re right - the censor must have had a finger on Mr. Jagger’s channel on the mixer. I didn’t notice it at all at the time, mostly because my wife and I were trying to figure out why they were mixed so poorly. I’m not sure the Stones played poorly, but they sure sounded bad for some reason…

Yeah, I heard on the radio that they were censored twice, but the one in Start Me Up was the only one I noticed.

I heard this show referred to as the “Steel Wheelchair Tour”.
