New Painting
April 10th, 2006On our Saturday outing, Leigh Ann and I wandered into a junk shop in a tiny old house on Pratt Avenue in Huntsville’s historic district. The woman there had a bunch of oil paintings; they were all hand-painted, although I don’t think any were originals, but copies of classic paintings from the eighteenth or nineteenth century. I saw one I really liked, and today I went back and bought it:
At first I wasn’t sure what it was about the painting that appealed to me, but after looking at it a while, I know: I’ve always liked the architecture and geometric art of the Islamic world. It’s logical, mathematical, and very colorful. This painting shows four men praying, but it’s really about the architecture. The woman at the junk store said I liked the painting because it’s peaceful. Yeah, that too.
I emailed a copy of this to my Boss, who also happens to be my Interior Decorator and Financial Director. She agrees this painting’s colors will go well in my study, and for a mere $40, I can afford it.

What size is the painting? I like it.

It’s about 20 by 30. She had a bigger one, about three feet by four feet, of an Islamic market, that I liked just as much, but I was afraid I didn’t have anywhere for something that large.

The photo doesn’t really do the painting justice. It’s very nice with dramatic colors. I assume you did some research to determine that it’s a copy? The shop owner is a BIRD!

I’ve tried to find out what it’s a copy of, but no luck so far.
