Where’s you sergeant, men?
BLOWED UP, SIR!
That was probably the only funny moment in Stripes, an otherwise forgettable movie. Well, I now have several pieces of equipment that have joined Sergeant Hulka in the BLOWED UP category.
Yesterday we had a Mother’s Day dinner and invited Fred, Jackie, and Jackie’s mom Cindy to join all of us so I could make my favorite New Orleans chicken and pasta. Mmm, it was good, but while I was cooking it, a storm came up, and we had one very close lightning strike. Later, after dinner, I got on my computer only to discover that I couldn’t reach the Internet.
After a little investigation last night, it would seem that both my wireless router and the cable modem are no more. The router will only talk to one of the computers plugged into it. The cable modem doesn’t seem to talk at all. This afternoon following work, I’ll phone Earthlink and report the problem. That will probably mean hours of talking to some tech rep and following his script (”Are you sure the computer is plugged in and turned on?”) until we eventually discover that I now have a bad modem.
The upshot of all this is that I won’t be doing much blogging of any sort until I get the Pine Gulch Data Center back up and connected to the Internet again. All my email used to pass through a spam filter at my house, but now I have all my email forwarded directly to my Gmail account, so I can receive email, except for most of yesterday’s and some of this morning’s email, which is now sitting over at Earthlink and can’t be forwarded to Gmail. However, because I’m now very limited in how and when I can reply to email, don’t expect me to be very responsive.
