Check out the headline on this article from the Mercury News:

UGH(A)

Saturday, November 11th, 2006

Vanderbilt beat them. Kentucky beat them. Four of the last five teams they played . . . beat them. But we couldn’t beat them. Why? Will somebody explain why? I have my own idea: we’re just not a very good football team. I don’t see any other explanation that makes sense. And we’d better improve [...]

Auburn’s golden eagle known as Tiger VI will be retiring before the Georgia game:
Tiger, Auburn’s famed 26-year-old golden eagle, will be retired in a ceremony beginning 25 minutes before kickoff Saturday.
Serving as War Eagle VI, Tiger has represented the university since 1986 and has been flying at home football games since 2000.
In 2002, she flew [...]

Disgusting, just plain disgusting

Saturday, October 7th, 2006

If you tuned in to CBS at 11 AM CDT this morning, you saw one of the worst performances ever by an Auburn football team. Why do we always seem to play our worst football against Arkansas? You’ve got to congratulate those hogs, though, they outplayed us on both sides of the ball. Number 2? [...]

This is what happens when you write the game summary by looking at the box score . . .

Read what the AP said about Auburn’s win last night:
By PETE IACOBELLI
The Associated Press
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Kenny Irons ran for 117 yards and two touchdowns in his return to South Carolina and No. 2 Auburn knocked away a last-chance pass to keep its unbeaten season alive with a 24-17 victory over the Gamecocks on [...]

Auburn at South Carolina part one . . .

Thursday, September 28th, 2006

I’m watching the Auburn at South Carolina game from my Phoenix hotel room. I’m trying not to yell too much so the neighbors don’t have to call the front desk about me. I don’t have anybody to discuss the game with, so this looks like a blog opportunity. Here’s my impressions of the first half:
You’ve [...]

Tigers Recognized

Monday, September 18th, 2006

Many Auburn Tigers (and LSU Tigers too) gave impressive performances in Saturday’s game. Now two tigers, of the orange-and-blue variety, have been recognized.
The Southeastern Conference has named Auburn punter Kody Bliss its special teams player of the week:

Bliss punted six times for a 48.2 yard average as Auburn defeated LSU, 7-3.
Bliss had the best game [...]

The zebras got it right

Monday, September 18th, 2006

In Saturday’s big game, the referees seemed to spend more time than usual huddled up to discuss a call, or standing around waiting for an instant replay review. It seemed to me at the time that several of these calls were incorrect and in our favor. Never had the refs been so kind to Auburn. [...]

Seven minus three equals sweet relief

Monday, September 18th, 2006

Saturday’s nail-biter of a win over the Louisiana State Tigers was as excruciating a contest as I’ve ever seen. From the time the game clock ran below 5:00, I was up and pacing the floor. I’d sit down, only to have to get up again when I couldn’t sit still. The game was also one [...]

Yeah, I’m ready for some football!

Saturday, September 2nd, 2006

Auburn kicks off the football season today amid loads of hype and championship hopes. Beano Cook has picked Auburn to play in the national championship game. Joseph Duarte of the Houston Chronicle told me via email that he picked Auburn to win the national championship in the Chronicle’s college football special. Kevin Scarbinsky of [...]

Sheridan on Auburn, Alabama

Tuesday, August 29th, 2006

Paul Finebaum’s Tuesday column is an interview with Danny Sheridan, USA Today’s college football oddsmaker and Finebaum’s favorite prognosticator. Sheridan picks Auburn as his favorite to win the SEC West, but says the tigers will pick up two losses somewhere along the way. He’s highly complimentary of Auburn’s coaching staff and recruiting, and predicts Auburn [...]
