Baby Bunnies!

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

Wendy discovered a “nest” (we’re not sure what the real word is) of baby bunnies in the back yard after we mowed for the first time this year. Fortunately, their little nest is well down into the turf because we mowed right over them.

(Yes, it’s safe to handle the baby bunnies. Momma bunny won’t “smell [...]

Baby dove update: growth rate slows, but city still in peril

Friday, May 15th, 2009

The baby doves aren’t growing as fast as the past few days, but they could have another growth spurt at any time, so the Giant Dove Threat Level remains at Orange, or “Almost Time for Panic”.

Yesterday I came home to find that Momma Dove was off shopping for bugs or worms or whatever it is [...]

Baby doves again

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

Yesterday I found Momma dove sitting off to the side, keeping a close watch on her young’uns (and on me).

Today I found her back in place more or less on top of them again. But note how the feathers are really filling out on the chicks. Soon they’ll be fledging. I hope I can be [...]

Another baby dove update

Monday, May 11th, 2009

The chicks have grown so large that Momma Dove isn’t trying to sit on them any more. Today I found them all sitting nose-to-nose. At the rate these chicks are growing, in two weeks they will be the size of Houston.

I was very close, and the click of my shutter scared away Momma Dove (sorry, [...]

Baby dove update

Just five days later, and look how the chicks have grown. They don’t fit under Momma Dove any more:

Baby doves

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

This mourning dove made herself a nest on the top of our hose reel.

We thought she was sitting on eggs, but after I accidentally scared her away, I discovered her eggs have hatched and she’s sitting on chicks.

I’m just afraid she and her chicks might not last long. They’re only about 4 feet off the [...]

I know it seems like I have forgotten my blog because I’m not writing in it any more. This neglect is not intentional; I have just not felt like writing. It’s been this way pretty much since Ike. I’ll get over it.
In the mean time, I do realize that this blog is now beginning its [...]

Gleefully stolen from Justin’s blog.

Riding again

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

This past Saturday, I started my riding lessons again. This time, instead of riding one of the school horses, I am riding our horse, Laredo. The advantage to being able to ride Laredo is that, once I’m comfortable with him, I can come out to the barn and ride him any time I want to. [...]

Friday afternoon at the barn

Friday, May 30th, 2008

I took Summer’s new camera to the barn to snap a few photos during Bryn’s riding lesson. Here’s a few of the good ones, in no particular order.

Coming soon: photos of Bryn actually riding.

Bryn and Laredo at W Bar S

Monday, May 19th, 2008

Bryn rode Laredo yesterday at the W Bar S Combined Training Event and took fourth place in her division. I was in the office getting caught up on some work that needed doing. Wendy took the new video camera (the old one has been busted for some time now) and filmed Bryn’s rides.
First is Bryn’s [...]

Video of Bryn riding Laredo at Pine Hill

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

Here’s two videos of Bryn riding Laredo at Pine Hill courtesy of Terry Longoria. The first comes from a schooling day on February 24 of this year:

The second is from an eventing day on March 2. Bryn finished fifth place for the day.
