Photographic Evidence that We’ve Lost Our Minds

Sunday, December 18th, 2005

Here’s a photo Jackie took of the horses at their former home:

We don’t know which of the two Fred and Jackie will claim, and which will be left for us. It doesn’t much matter, because we intend to keep the two together and share use of them both. Fred has wisely suggested that we wait [...]

Why Yes, Now That You Mention It, We HAVE Lost Our Minds…

Saturday, December 17th, 2005

We now own a horse. Here’s how it happened: Fred and Jackie, our good friends from across the neighborhood were offered three horses. I won’t go into the details, but it should suffice to say that they didn’t want all three horses, so they offered one to us. After much discussion, debate, and deliberation, we [...]

What a Difference a Year Makes

Monday, October 31st, 2005

Last year, about the time that we were just getting started as a foster family with the Houston Sheltie Society, the society took in two strays that had been found wandering in Montgomery county. Their condition was described as “horrific”; they were diseased and malnourished. One of the two, Cedes, is pictured here in a [...]

Kaci

Tuesday, September 6th, 2005

Meet Kaci (pronounced like Casey), our newest foster sheltie. Kaci is about 8 months old and very small: about 12 pounds and maybe ten inches at the shoulder. Kaci has a medical disorder that causes those patches of hair loss on her nose. Kaci is sweet with a friendly disposition. We’re already enjoying her company.

New Foster

Friday, September 2nd, 2005

Yesterday afternoon Jean Samuelson of the Houston Sheltie Sanctuary put out a call for help:
I’ll be sending this plea to all the adoptive homes as well. If you have ever thought of fostering but have not done so, now is the time to step forward. First, we have over 45 dogs in the [...]

The World’s Ugliest Dog.

Update: Here’s a Houston Chronicle story about this ugly mutt.

Reliant Dog Show

Monday, July 25th, 2005

Wendy, Summer, and Bryn went to the big Reliant Dog Show last Friday and worked a shift at the Houston Sheltie Sanctuary booth. Here’s a photo of Wendy holding Bailey and Bryn holding Ariel.

Doggie Pratfalls

Email from Joy:

This is the cutest. I saw it on TV just a few weeks back. This dog is incredible. Takes about 30 seconds to download but worth the wait. Enjoy and turn your sound up. Joy
Requires Windows Media Player. Funniest dog I’ve ever seen. (What is that, a border collie?)

Bailey

Monday, July 4th, 2005

Meet Bailey, our latest foster pup from the HSS. Wendy had Bailey in the van with her when she came to the airport on Friday to pick me up. Bailey is about one year old, but if you ask me he’s all puppy. Rambunctious. Playful. Energetic. He goes to the vet next week to get [...]

Slugs!

Monday, July 4th, 2005

While mowing the front yard today (in a heat index of 115, but that’s another story), I moved a flower pot and discovered six of the biggest, slimiest slugs I’ve ever seen. I later discovered that slug slime is almost impossible to wash off!

Them’s Texas slugs!

Major Again

Saturday, June 25th, 2005

Wendy just left to take Major across town to a second adoption interview. It’s likely she’ll come back without him. Better luck this time, Major.
Update: Major got adopted.

Major’s Return

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2005

Like MacArthur, Major has returned. The family that adopted him was unable to keep him in their back yard; twice he jumped the fence to escape. Wendy’s theory is that Major was left alone for long hours and got bored. The Houston Sheltie Society decided that Major was too much at risk with this family, [...]
